Damas

Everyday finds this tree surrounded by men taking turns on the 4 and sometimes 5 checkers, or damas en español, boards. The boards themselves are mainly highlighted cardboard with the appropriately matching soda bottle caps. Bilz = red. Fanta = orange. Cachantun Más = green. Kem = pukish yellow. Unfortunately, I failed to get a good photo of the caps. I think this was the only board without them, though!

The men file in and out as spots open, hosting a much lighter-hearted and smaller crowd than those playing chess just over a block away.

Similar to the habitual chess players, many of the same men are seen whenever passing this tree along Paseo Ahumada.
